  31. DESCRIPTION

  33.      `xpkdisk.device' is an exec-style device that looks like
  34.      trackdisk.device and similar disks. The difference is that it
  35.      compresses its data and stores it in multiple files in an existing
  36.      filesystem.  It uses the XPK (eXternal PacKer) standard to do the
  37.      actual compression.  This has many advantages.
  38.  
  39.      This aproach differs from compressing file systems: they compress
  40.      on a per-file basis, and generally limit the maximum size of files
  41.      that they can handle to the available memory.
  42.  
  43. NEW FEATURES
  44.  
  45.    * Version 37.8 works around a horrible bug that is really caused by
  46.      XPK when track files are not compressible.  Look in the source
  47.      file "devio.c" for details, near the symbol XPKBUG.
  48.  
  49.    * You can now change the XPKD: assign on the fly, if you're careful.
  50.  
  51.    * xdClear now works with the fake scsi.device, which does not seem to
  52.      know about ETD_* commands.
  53.  
  54.    * Now keeps the old track file while writing a new one. The old
  55.      track file is only deleted after successfully writing the new one.
  56.      You have more control about what to do in such situations.

  60.      AmigaDOS 2.04 or better is required for some features to work.
